Info
Immerse yourself in the frighteningly intense world of Counter-Terrorism.
This is the ultimate multiplayer gaming experience that combines all the elements of the Half-Life online universe with new single and multiplayer content. At the heart of this package is Counter-Strike, the number one played online action game built as an add-on for Half-Life., the PC CD-ROM named Game of the Year by over 50 publications worldwide. The package also contains the multiplayer components from Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Team Fortress Classic.

Source code availability
The source code has not been released. Your only option for a fully open clone of Counter-Strike is Frag-Net's own FreeCS.
How-to-play On-line
The digital version requires the proprietary Steam client, which is not available on most platforms. The multi-player there works, but is incompatible with any other version. You need to port-forward 27015 (UDP) in order to host a server.
The original disc release is not playable. Several alternatives to WON.net existed, but they're varying in quality, up-time and most importantly player count. They're only an option if you're playing with friends.
