QuakeWorld

Info

QuakeWorld isn’t just a different way to play Quake on-line over the Internet - it’s indeed a whole new World.

The new client/server made gameplay for 28.8 modem users possible over the Internet - but the whole experience was smoother for everyone else as well. The physics had to overhauled as a result to be made more predictable by the client.

The end-result is almost perfection. There’s very few games that come close to the addiction that can be experienced in QuakeWorld.

Many NetQuake mods (NQ is the name to refer the vanilla-derived client networking clients) are also available for QuakeWorld as well, often with extra features or performance optimisations.

The original client was official, free but unsupported. It is now effectively maintained by the community with a diverse choice of clients you can view here.

Read the three-part The QuakeWorld Chronicles by Blue to learn all about the origins of QuakeWorld.
